Celebrating 165 years of faithful service!
GOD IS STILL SPEAKING!
The family of faith of Grace UCC of Loyal Oak is an inclusive, welcoming, affirming community committed to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We believe that the Social Gospel Jesus taught and lived calls us to be nothing less than a church of people dedicated to welcoming all who walk through our doors as wonderful creations of God, made in the image of God. We celebrate diversity, pray and work for peace and non-violence in the world, and deeply care about the poor, the hungry, the dispossessed and marginalized by our society. We're not about judgment and tearing down, we're about supporting and building up! If you've been hurt and mistreated by other religious communities, know that you are safe with us...and can learn more about the God of love and grace who we love so passionately. Come spend some time with us...just as you are! GOD IS STILL SPEAKING....COME LISTEN!
From the President:
When I was a divorced single mom I started going to church to find a safe haven and a place to learn more about God. What I found in some churches was the opposite of what I was looking for. Instead of being a safe haven they were houses filled with judgment.
I’m glad I didn’t give up, because a long the way I found Grace UCC of Loyal Oak. I was told during the service that if I walked through the doors I was considered family, and was welcomed with open arms. It wasn’t an overwhelming smothering welcome, but one that made me feel as if where I was on life’s journey wouldn’t be judged. I could be a single divorced woman raising kids on my own.
Ten years have passed since I first walked through the doors. I’m married now and my kids have all moved away, but my sense of family hasn’t diminished it’s grown.
Since the first time I walked through the doors there is nothing in my life I have gone through alone. My church family has supported me through trying times losing my parents, my oldest son’s addiction, and celebrated my triumphs moving through a failed back surgery.
My personal relationship with God has become a daily blessing and I have learned that no matter what my station in life I have something to give. At this point in life, I don’t know where I would be had I not walked through those doors, doors that not only led me to a loving extended family, but also a loving gracious God.
